The latest publication on our blog (read YouTube backlinks post here) has feedbacked with lots of great questions. And one of the most common was the one asking…

As YouTube.com accounts can have some SEO value in terms of direct backlinks,
Is it wise to invest any money into purchasing
Established, Old YouTube accounts with high PR?

I will start with my personal point of view and then will give the general “pros and cons” on this SEO strategy.

Personal Opinion – Not Wise.

I wouldn’t invest my own money into established YouTube.com accounts for one reason – THEY are the boss. Not you. They are the owners of each and every page on YouTube.com site. And your account page is also their ownership. I am not a lawyer, but I think a good one might go through their Terms of Service and – most likely – will find more details on the ownership of account pages.

Still, my personal assumption is that THEY are the owners.

And investing any money into something which will never really belong to you is not wise.

For example here – on Buy Web Site page – where people get ownership of established sites with traffic – you can see WHO is the owner, WHO is the person behind the site. And once you have purchased the site – you are its owner and no YouTube.com or Google.com or anyone else can close you. This is important for the long term investors.

And the issue with vague ownership of YouTube.com accounts will, most likely, become a long lasting issue.

Advantages of this strategy.

The SEO advantages are obvious. Just think that for a quite flat fee you can get into your hands the account with PR7. Wow! This is a bargain, real SEO bargain!

Maybe the previous owner of the account is simply tired of the thing, and you are ready to “inherit” it for money. Why not? Even one backlink from a PR7 page on YouTube.com – this is really cool in terms of SEO!!

So, this makes sense. Surely it is all about the price – but if you are ready to risk a little, always remembering that YouTube.com may cut this account down, then surely this strategy is worth trying.

Outgoing Backlinks from YouTube.com are
‘No Follow’?

Everybody knows that outgoing backlinks from YouTube.com are ‘no follow’ and thus have no SEO value which makes YouTube.com pretty useless in terms of building one way backlinks to any web pages outside YouTube.com

(note: those of you who do not know what is that ‘no follow’ stuff and how to check whether a backlink that you got is ‘no follow’ – please read this video blog post about No Follow Checking)

There is a big and heated debate in SEO world about whether ‘no follow’ backlinks actually count for SEO or not. I would recommend to watch this video from Matt Cutts – the “official talking head” from Google web spam team (this team is also taking care of all SEO stuff in Google) about the SEO value of ‘no follow’ backlinks.

And my personal subjective point of view is similar to Google’s official point of view – it was pointless for Google to introduce all this ‘no follow’ stuff and then, for some reason, stop playing into this game and start counting ‘no follow’ backlinks as the ones that transfer SEO juice. But this is my personal point of view and I respect the right of other people to have other opinions on this tricky SEO issue.

But in any case, I have definitely great news for all backlink lovers, because …

NOT ALL YouTube.com Backlinks are ‘No Follow’;

is Waiting for You on YouTube.com
RIGHT HERE…

It is waiting for you inside the user profile section of YouTube.com channel. For example, if you go to our Free Traffic System video channel and scroll the page a little to see the Profile section, and inside this section you will notice a backlink. And this is a real SEO backlink, no ‘no follow’ stuff, 100% full force SEO backlink – please check the screenshot below to see where exactly it is located in the Profile section.

And, by the way,
This is a backlink from PR4 page!!

Surely I am not trying to say that all YouTube.com channel pages have high Google PR – lots of them have PR0. But in any case, this is a backlink. Check it and you will see – it has no ‘no follow’ in the HTML code of the page.

There is one disadvantage about this backlink in profile section – you don’t have any freedom with anchor text of this backlink. All you can do is simply put a URL, and no fancy games with anchor text and keyword hunting here. And yes, this is a disadvantage. But at the same moment – getting at least one full-force SEO backlink from YouTube.com is not bad

Well, I have done a vast research, and can say in all other places the outgoing backlinks have ‘no follow’. But I don’t pretend to be the source of ultimate truth here. And one of the reasons of writing this post is the following – you can help all Free Traffic System users by double checking this info.

Do you own research.

Dig through the whole structure of different YouTube pages (channel pages, tag pages, comments – everything).

Maybe you will find another page/section where the ‘no follow’ rule on YouTube.com is broken – for the glory of SEO geeks round the globe.

On the surface it seems that, “Come on! If there are so many Web 2.0 SEO tools, who can doubt that Web 2.0 and SEO can be blended nicely?!!”

But believe me, the answer is not that easy. This rabbit hole is much deeper…

However, let’s start from acknowledging that in general Web 2.0 is a great concept, because it is about people interacting with each other – and concepts like this evolve the whole Internet. Among great examples of Web 2.0 I can personally mention:

- social networks (Facebook.com and MORE, tons MORE)
- news sites and directories (Digg.com, Propeller.com and MORE)
- bookmarking communities (Del.icio.us and MORE)
- free web page communities (Squidoo.com, HubPages.com and MORE)
- video sharing communities (YouTube.com rocks!! + lots of others)

These and lots of other communities have added so much power to the Internet, that I am personally thankful to the enthusiasts who are running these great concepts and who are helping to spread the horizons for the whole Internet community.

But Web 2.0 + SEO = Hmm…
There are Certain *Nuances*
(quite often – nasty nuances)

The biggest problem with Web 2.0 for SEO is the following rule of a thumb – ONCE ANY WEB 2.0 PROJECT BECOMES SUCCESSFUL – THEY CUT YOU DOWN ON SEO.

Usually, the “evolution” of any Web 2.0 project is like this. At first, they all love you – because they need YOU to grow their project. They don’t put ‘no follow’ on the outgoing backlinks. But once they have grown enough – instantly you see “Thank you for your job. But now you will be getting ‘no follow’ on all your backlinks.”

I remember this happening to Del.icio.us, I remember this happening to HubPages.com (because now on most of their outgoing backlinks, with very rare exceptions, you get ‘no follow’), I remember this happening to Squidoo.com, I remember this happening on Propeller.com (this project had another name when they started).

I remember, I remember, I remember…

They use SEO “geeks” to explode their site structure. And once we helped them to grow – they throw us out of the window.

Either they put ‘no follow’, or they put redirects on the outgoing backlinks – in any case they leave you with ZERO value from the backlinks that you have been building with them.

The rare exceptions from this rule – the places where the outgoing backlinks are still ‘do follow’ – are shared like a holy grail secret. For example, one of the secrets of that kind is available for PRO members in ‘Bonuses’ section of their members area.

In the vast majority of cases the tools which promise you huge SEO effect from submitting your content to Web 2.0 communities are nothing but a Lame Excuse to Take Your Money

Death of Web 2.0?
Of Course – NOT!

I have nothing against submitting great piece of content and spreading it around the world. If you can create a really compelling article or video, you can get tons of traffic with the help of Web 2.0 You can become another Internet star – and no jokes here!

But don’t kid yourself, this must be something REALLY COOL. Your content must be a HIT! It must instantly attract the attention and keep this attention till the final line of the article text or a final second of a video. Don’t forget that you have to compete with millions of people who are trying to do the same, so the quality must be AWESOME.

But services who sell you Web 2.0 submission tools and tell you that this will generate tons of backlinks – they are simply brainwashing you, because they “forget” to mention that most of these backlinks will be ‘no follow‘ and/or redirects.

So, if you are using Web 2.0 submissions tools just to spread the content – then surely this is smart and it’s all about the quality of this content whether you will have or will not have any traffic.

But if you are using Web 2.0 submissions tools, thinking that this will generate you tons of backlinks, then you are losing your time. And those who do not tell you about ‘no follows’ and/or ‘redirects’ are exploiting your lack of experience in this industry.

That is why I highly recommend you to do the following…

If you have started to play the Web 2.0 game and want to see serious SEO effect from it, please build backlinks to the web pages on these Web 2.0 communities. This is exactly what lots of Free Traffic System users are doing – they build backlinks to their social network pages, web pages inside Squidoo and HubPages, YouTube video pages, their social bookmarking profiles, etc.

Without the backlinks your articles, news and videos will get lost in hundreds of millions of other articles, news and videos.

Only if you add REAL SEO to the Web 2.0 you will be able to see any serious SEO effect from Web 2.0
