Effective Link Building Strategies
List of Strategies that Will Help to
Diversify Your One Way Link Building
In this blog post I want to give the list of the most popular one way link building strategies. But, this list will act as a platform for sharing your personal feedback about the strategies you use – we will give you a chance to express your opinion in the comments to the blog post.
So, together with nice info our team wants to make a sort of interactive public poll for learning about your personal link building “love list” and “hate list.”
Popular
One Way Link Building
Strategies:
Article Marketing
Old, yet very stable and reliable s0urce to get backlinks. Search engines love new content, inside this content you put your backlink or more than one backlink (it all depends upon the rules of the community where you are distributing your content for link baiting).
Recently article marketing started to evolve into something which can be called as a sub-section of the article marketing. In particular, press release marketing, also used with SEO purposes.
Content Publication on Celebrity Site(s) of Your Niche
This strategy needs negotiations, money and time. Because it’s not easy to convince one of the top sites in your niche to publish your piece of content (be it general article, or review of some issue in your niche, or simply a short piece of semi-promo text) and give you one of a few one way backlinks.
Most likely you will have to pay for such a publication, and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. This is not quick, but even a small bunch of one way backlinks from the reputable site will help you a lot in SEO.
Forum Marketing
Usually this strategy is being used for diversification, rather than any other purposes. If – in addition to the major link building campaign that you are doing – you add a bunch of backlinks from 5-7 forums in your niche. Day after day it grows into a nice extra pool of backlinks from reputable resources.
Most likely the pages with your backlinks will appear on pages with zero PR, because these are pages that have been created by you and are very fresh. Still, over time, you get a good number of backlinks, they accumulate, and often seriously boost your link building portfolio.
In terms of technology you are getting backlinks from the forum signatures or even from inside the text of the forum posts. It is also recommended to do this job manually, without any automatic tools, because spam forum posting is instantly noticed by the forum people and your account gets suspended – so, manual forum marketing, when there is a real person who is doing the job, who is analyzing the topics discussed on the forum and runs the online conversation with other forum members.
Blog Commenting
For a big while blog commenting (and getting backlinks from the comments) was a very effective tool to build one way backlinks. All you need is go to the top blogs in your niche and comment to the publications done on these blogs. If you can run a conversation online, and comment productively, this can bring you backlinks from really good pages. Sometimes your comment can be approved and published even on the old pages with PR2 and more.
The cloud in the sky is that tons of automatic (and – most often – primitive tools) junked the whole idea with sending the floods and floods of spam comments, and even the best spam filters fail to save the problem. Logically that most of the bloggers are switching their blogs to the ‘no follow’ on the comments. Still, if you do a great job, in almost any niche you can find at least some good blogs, SEO-powered, without any ‘no follow’ stuff on the backlinks.
Backlinks from Social Bookmarking Sites
Social bookmarking sites have been a hit for a good period of time. Lots of people have build up their own social bookmarking web sites.
That is why – without any big routine, you can order the submission to hundreds of social bookmarks. Or you can buy the tool that is doing the submission, and do it yourself with the tool. In the jobs of that kind automation is easy and effective.
Backlinks from Link Brokers
Link brokers are the companies that help to match the “link givers” and the “link getters”.
Inside these memberships people can buy backlinks on the sites available in the network of this link broker. Usually you pay on a link-per-month basis.
And you can also sell the web space on your site, so that other “link getters” could be a backlink on it.
Backlinks from Free Web Page Creation Services
Today there are lots of web projects where they allow you creating unlimited number of web pages, with possibilities to add text, images, video and links into the page info. Great examples of these networks are Squidoo, HubPages and other projects.
Not all, but at least several of these projects have managed to become very trusted and reputable in the eyes of major search engines. And getting backlinks from them is worth the job.
Still, “thanks” to the spam tools that where automatically creating junk quality pages, like crazy, most of the projects have put ‘no follow’ on any outgoing backlinks from their sites or have started to severely moderate each publication.
Backlinks from Social Networks
Creating pages in top social networks and building backlinks from that pages was really fun.
Unfortunately it was quick overspammed and – in most of the cases – pushed these social network to put ‘no follow’ on the outgoing backlinks.
Submissions to Message Boards
Used to be a very effective one – people could submit simple text messages with backlinks and get them published on message boards.
Seriously overspammed. Sometimes you can see even funny things like dozens of dozens of new messages being created every second on the page of the message board, as you refresh the page in the browser. Just imagine how massive the spam submission is. Due to this your backlinks have small chances to get noticed in this flood of publications coming every second.
Link Directory Submission
Very old link building service, perhaps one of the oldest on the market today.
Not super effective (because on a certain stage all search engines started to crack it; and, sometimes, successfully), still it works. And can be used as a nice frugal way to get extra backlinks.
Usually used for the diversification of the link building, because diversity never hurts in SEO.
Viral SEO Strategies
Usually this sort of strategies involves at least the basic knowledge of code programming. Basically you create “something” which is being virally spread over the Internet and, without any help from your end, sends you backlinks.
For example, top authority sites in almost any niche have reputation programs. They review your site and if it fits with their standards – they give you a badge. It can be a lovely looking picture with text like “Reviewed for Quality, by www.ReputableSiteHere.com” And these pictures can come with the real live one way backlink to the site of the reviewing company.
Viral strategies are far from being quick, but if the idea is great – then in a year you can talk about your personal backlink pools, thousands and thousands of backlinks.
That’s It…
Surely this is not the ultimate list of effective and productive link building strategies.
And this is where you can step in.

Don’t necessarily knock off blog commenting, just because of nofollow. The link may not give you any PR juice, but other readers can (and do follow) the link to see what you are about.
A long term commenter can end up being offered the chance to do a guest post. Just make sure whenever and wherever you are adding comments that they are relevant and add to the discussion.

Think you have covered most link building strategies here. Submitting exe-files (make an exe-file out of your ebook) to software directories is another approach to viral link building.

I use mostly article marketing and press releases. But I like to mix it up occasionally by making blog comments/posts, social bookmarks, and making pages with squidoo and other web 2.0 sites. Another popular and effective backlink strategy is high page rank profile links. They can be hard to find sometimes especially in a small niche but you simple create a profile after registering to their site and see if you can leave your link in the profile or about me section, some will be follow links you can even ad anchor text for supreme seo! Cheers!

We have seen the fastest results coming from text link brokers. By choosing the right links we have been able to increase link popularity by 1000′s in just a few days.
Not every niche has the right links to generate these results, but if you are in a niche that does, hat’s off the fastest and most effective in increasing page rank and getting top 10 in major search engines.

We also publish videos on numerous video sites. In addition to getting traffic as a result of these videos, each page also has a backlink to our site with our pre-defined anchor text.

As an add on to article marketing I also leave comments on articles from Ezine articles. You can leave your URL and it does not seem to have the no follow rule set.

Here are some of my preferred methods
A network of mini blogs, hubs etc linking into each other once then into the main blog at the centre of the hub.
Question sites to answer specific questions in respect of a topic directed back to a blog post which has the answer
Articles should be submitted to multiple sites to get the max exposure so a degree of automation is needed here
Videos with appropriate tags to your target sites have to be a consideration but again should be sent to multiple video submission sites with an App such as Tube Mogul.
Maps of each of your sites should be susmitted to search engines to help with directory submissions.
And I could go on all day……..
Good post by the way

Perhaps this might be an old trick that is natural and white hat SEO regarding building quality backlinks, however here is what I recently started doing:
1. I used the following codes to find relevant high quality blogs/forums regarding my niche.
site:.com inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “ADD YOUR KEYWORD”
site:.org inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “ADD YOUR KEYWORD”
site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “ADD YOUR KEYWORD”
site:.gov inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “ADD YOUR KEYWORD”
2. Once you choose a code add your keyword(s) in the “ADD YOUR KEYWORD” section.
3. Then, when you find blogs/forums to comment, you can either comment or copy & paste the url to a software program like “fast blog finder” to make sure the blog is a “do follow” blog. I’m sure their are other programs, however the program based on your keyword search determines which blogs are “no follow and do follow” so that you won’t waste your time. It’s not auto-generated regarding comments, therefore you do have to manually write your own comments etc.
4. Once you have submitted blog do the following:
A. Copy the URL of the page you commented on into the “Website/URL” field.
B. Give it a title (a brief summary of your content is good, or if you want to play it ultra-safe just enter the name of the site).
C. Select a category (not necessary but it doesn’t hurt).
D. Choose your ping services (I just select them all).
click the “Submit” button and you’re done!
Once you’ve pinged the pages you’ve commented on, you’re done!
Within a few hours (or possibly just a few minutes), Google will spider the site you commented on, find your link and give your page credit for a high-quality in-bound link.
Once all 10 links are found by Google and credited to you (which shouldn’t take more than a few days), you should start to see your site climbing in the rankings.
That’s It?
Regards,
Hugo

I agree with a lot of the points on this posting… I also go to the websites like Google Profiles (PR10) to create backlinks. This is very easy o do and it only takes a few minutes to create an account and add your links. One quick way of getting backlinks on a PR10 website.

I have been using blog commenting strategy in the last few months and have seen great results; my page rank has moved from zero to 1 and traffic rank from millions to hundred thousand and do have free visitors from 500 to 700 per day.
This method is cheaper, you pay $47 as a one off payment to the provider of this service and get 700 plus PR4-8 sources of high quality word press blogs. The trick here is to contribute positively other wise your comments will not be published.
Backlinks from Link Brokers are very expensive! I contracted one broker last year and paid $2999.95 for a period of 6 months… I did not see any good results from this strategy. After 6 months, canceled my membership. If it has worked for you, then good luck!

I use article marketing, forum marketing, blog commenting, social bookmarking sites, social networks and link directory submission (a little) to build my backlinks. Article marketing is good for I get traffic from article directories but I feel a little frustrated because at the beginning the page rank is always 0.
I especially like forum marketing and blog commenting for I can always learn some new stuff from others. As for backlinks, I prefer forum marketing and blog commenting for I do have higher page rank comments being approved and published.

Hi! Interesting things about how to build some backlinks. Most of them need for a lot of time but the most important things, is worth the time if you post regularly.
And most important is diversity. I think that would be a great way to prevent the search engines from thinking you are gaming the system.
Thanks for sharing this.

One good way to get some viral linking is to write an excellent article or preferably blog post but use a really strong related image or video which you have personally created to go along with the article. Be sure the image or video has proper alt and title tags along with a link to your site. You could possibly even draw a funny cartoon if you have the gift of drawing then scan the image and add it to your article. Next, you’ll send the article to your email list.
I see this commonly used in the religious arena. Somebody will write a religious passage or use one that speaks to many people but then they also add their own image or video with links to their own site. As the list of email addressees view their mail many of them will forward it onward if it really catches their attention.
The next think you know you’ll have relatives and friends forwarding it to everybody they know and the effect just keeps snowballing. Meanwhile your site is steadily building new links.
Another benefit for using this technique is that images are used widely by the three major search engines. In the example above, if somebody’s searching for a picture of an angel and the image you personally created for your article was a really cool picture which you drew of an angel it just might be the first image to pop up in their search. When the person searching clicks on your angel image they will then be taken to your site.

I look for ways to contextual, do-follow, relevant links that stick a long time, and ones that I’m allowed to use my own anchor text. Usually article marketing, blog content syndication (more so this method) allows for all of that…
I also do manual directory submissions to 100 general directories … and then find some niche specific directories.. I also use auto Social Bookmarking services, submit my RSS feeds around, social profiles… etc.
Diversity is key I’d say…

I find a really good thing to do is use article marketing as a base for my links. Once you have a bank of articles being distributed you just need to submit the odd ones to top up your banklink generation. This then gives time to concentrate getting some good blog posts and quality links to the site to help build the authority.

Mix it up with article marketing, Profile links work really well at the minute if you get them indexed, software directories, parasite hosting and social bookmarking are my bread and butter but I like to diversify and experiment.
Just started trying blog commenting, will let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the post and the open discussion will be coming back to check on people replies.

We actually just came up with our own variation on the above systems. We’re syndicating our content.
We run a horse racing site whereby people will be able to get daily, updated news articles appropriate to their blogs. In exchange, we gain links (and hopefully visitors) from their sites.
It’s a win win for both parties, and definitely counts as one way links.
You can see the site where we explain how the process works by clicking on my name above. I’d like to think that we’re the first ones to do this particular form of marketing.

I have read so many e-books and webpages and each claiming this or that strategy is good or bad. The idea of the “nofollow” tag is still a little bit confusing. I published articles on hubpages, several social network services and blog comments having the “nofollow” tag yet in my google webmaster tools account I discovered that google listed those links. Any explanation for this?
My first experience with link brokers was bad so I quit because after you pay recurrent fees nothing happens. Directory submission services? Go round them and do it yourself.
My major linking strategy is blogs: my own blogs, free blogs and guest bloging.
Socialbookmarking has given my sites quite good rankings.

Wow Hugo(above),
I just tried that and it seems to work quite well. That’s a new tool in the box!
Good post, high PR blog commenting has always been my number 1 route but unfortunatly many of the blogs are spammed to death which means the amount of PR they pass can be pretty low.

These are some very useful linking strategies you have compiled.
I have been using the same search strings as Hugo and have had much success with them. I actually learned about them last year while following the 30 Day Challenge.
I also use Blog Talk Monitor to stay in the blogging loop..Look it up, it’s from the Blog Success Guys.
One of our best linking strategies has been using social and 2.0 sites. FB fan pages and the like can bring quite a few not to mention the followers you can get with quality postings and write ups.
For submissions, bookmarks and pinging services, I prefer automated services like TrafficBug and similar, that deliver on promises and save me from countless hours of doing these tedious tasks manually.
Article marketing on 2.0′s is also effective if you can connect with your readers and offer something of value that they may be willing to share.
One last thing I do and that’s not to say these are all I do but offering link exchanges with others in my niche and in related niches has shown lots of promise and brought in quite a few links. It’s a win win if you ask me.
Well there’s my few cents. Thanks Again and looking forward to reading what your other commentors come up with:)
Cheers from Wyo!

Great resource for link building methods. Though as an SEO myself, I always recommend content based link building strategies, since they are risk-free and absolutely high quality. link baiting, article submission, guest posting, web 2.0 contents and social bookmarking are the most that I personally suggest, since other link building methods might put your business at risk if marked as spam. But with the other techniques, blog commenting is the most that I find strong in both in bringing traffic to your site as well as in building strong relationships within your niche.

Jason

Admin answer:
It all depends upon how you do the profile blasts. For example, we run our own forum profile backlink service where we not only create profiles, but also:
- ping them after profile creation
- RSS them after profile creation
This speeds up the indexing of the profile pages seriously and solve most of the problem that you are mentioning (which is a problem, of course, and thanks for bringing up this topic into the discussion).
