Great information - very well explain and very concise. When you explained how a competitor can not harm your rankings it all clicked into place!

Yes, things are changing fast. The Semantic Web was the future of the Internet over 10 years ago. Relevance is the all important key here but even more so, is the geo location between the searcher and the website. Get your business in local directories and if you don't have a local business, a FREE Storefront might work: http://www.wealthlpp.com/alb/reno Add video and images and content to those listings because those are where Google goes first.

LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) has been used for a few years now along with relational databases that finally have some applications that work but not without some human intelligence. The idea is to remove all forms of any unreliable human input.

It stands to reason that when machines are better at getting more relevant results, the backlinks will start to matter more. Therefore your suggestions to keep them relevant so you don't take chances on what Google will do 2 or 3 years from now is right on target now and a year ago!

Audience optimization will start to sell e-books next! Another fancy term for targeting. Some SEO firms will scare you into thinking you have to "place" the perfect link with the perfect search words strategically on all counts or you're out. When they told me all the rules, I fired them all and did what I thought made sense. Anything too perfect is not real and that's where the algorithm comes in - Google knows is evolving right before our eyes into more relevance and results that matter to the person - called personalized search now.

Anyway about 3 years ago, I just added whatever category or products I like to my husbands car care products website. It's still there: http://www.productioncarcare.com and you can see how they are not relevant to each other but guess what?

Google knows what that website is about or it wouldn't have shot up from a ZERO to a PR3 in about 7-8 months. So what if the Hammerdance has nothing to do with car wax - Watch that video - it's hilarious and Will Smith - his wisdom is great! I think there are 1193 links coming in but I have no idea where they are from. Who cares?

Conclusion: I never even saw the PR1 or PR2 - by the time I looked it was PR3 and hasn't moved since. Just do business as usual and quit stressing!!

I have tried to explain this point to my business partner many times and was never able to get my point across. It was only after I showed him this video was he able to grasp the concept. I also liked how you explained the point of the spammy links on your own site and the difference of how Google does frown upon this. Definitely and eye opening video.

I really do think your right on this 2, how else could google weed out sites with bad links? And there is no way that google could check by human all the sites, so basically its going to not count certain links - im beigning to think it might not be counting many links - even some natural ones! we shall see...

To many backlinks all at once may hurt your site. This depends on various circumstances.

1. If your site was not getting many backlinks then all of a sudden they get many. This could hurt your site

2. The Google search engines likes websites that grow naturally. So if you are getting 100 backlinks one week you need 100 backlinks the next and the next etc...

Interesting video,

I've wondering this question after my site just fell from #2 right down to #60 for my main keywords.

I was ranking well (#2, #3) for all my buyer keywords for like over a month, then BAMM! I dropped to like #60!

I was building links on a daily basis, about 60% from Unique Article Wizard (which is pretty much the same as Free Traffic System), and the rest from high PR social profile-type dofollow sites.

It seemed to paying off (my traffic quadrupled, and I started earning about $300/week for just that site. BUT on the 1st October 2009, BAMM!! My site dropped to #60 for ALL of my keywords that were ranking well (1st page of Google) for.

Perhaps you could give some insight into why Google is "punishing" me. I continue to build the same type of links (ie contextual links from articles using UAW and from high PR social profiles). Have I been "sandboxed"? My site is about 8 months old now. And will Free Traffic System really have any affect on my rankings??

Please send me an email once you have replied, since you do not have any "subscribe to comments" option.

Thanks,
Brett

I always cross check my incomoing links even if they dont sound spammy; just to be doubly sure it doesnt hurt my site or my site's visitors. Because you never know, there are more spammy blogs than real worthy and informative blogs!
