Search engines are the best source of targeted traffic. In fact, search engine traffic is considered to be the best buyer traffic. There are two methods to get targeted traffic from the search engines:
- Paid Traffic
- FREE Traffic
Paid Targeted Traffic: Paid traffic means that you have to pay for that traffic. Pay per click (PPC) is a form of paid traffic that all the search engines allow. You are allowed to bid on the keywords that you want your ads to be advertised. When someone searches for that keyword on the search engines, your ad will be shown on the right side of the search engine result page (SERP).
If anyone clicks on that ad, you will pay for that click. Depending on the level of competition for that keyword, you can pay from $0.1 to $10 or even more for one click on your ads. In recent years, PPC has become highly competitive and it has become more and more difficult for an internet marketer with a small budget to compete with big budget corporations. After all it is the highest bidder who wins in PPC.
This
was the major disadvantage. But the major advantage of using PPC is that
your
ads begin showing within minutes of your ad getting approved by Google,
Yahoo
or Bing. This is one of the major advantages of PPC. You can get a lot
of instant traffic
but you will have to pay for that. One of other methods of getting
targeted traffic like PPC is PPV (Page per View). However, you will need
to do a lot of testing in order to get a good ROI on your PPC as well
as PPV campaigns.
Now over the last year, Facebook has also become
one of the major sources of paid traffic with its Facebook Ads. Facebook
Ads are similar to PPC ads with some slight modifications. But like
PPC, Facebook Ads have also become highly competitive and expensive for
most markets.
FREE Targeted Traffic: On the other hand for getting FREE traffic from the search engines, you will have to do search engine optimization to get high rankings on a SERP. Top 5 rankings on a SERP can bring in a lot of visitors depending on how much that particular keyword is drawing traffic. However, the higher the traffic for a particular keyword, the more competition you will find for higher ranking for that keyword. Getting FREE traffic requires a lot of hard work. It takes time and the results start showing in a few months not instantly like that in PPC or PPV.
Another
disadvantage of FREE traffic from the search engines is that search engines
keep on changing their SEO algorithm. So your site may be on page 1 today but
may disappear forever the next day. Just like what happened to many websites a
few months back when Google released its Panda Update.
You should keep this fact in mind that Facebook is now rivaling the search engines in terms of both free as well as paid targeted traffic.
