SEO Beyond SEO:
Using SEO for Building Public Opinion

Both you and me are kind of obsessed with the same game – “build more backlinks, push sites higher, generate more traffic, make more money” – and nothing bad about it.

But we all love evolving, love breaking the limits, stretching the horizons – and today I would like to talk about unusual way of using SEO inventory. I would like to talk about SEO as a revolutionary instrument for creating public opinion units.

And how these public opinion units (together with SEO) can save the reputation of your product/service/brand and save your sales from blatant media attacks of your competitors.

What is a Public Opinion Unit?

This is a piece of information (text, audio, video) that has a purpose of building up a certain opinion (positive, negative, neutral) with the online audience.

Of course, public relation agencies have been using the Internet for a long time to deliver their public opinion units to the targeted audience. But there is one thing which most of the agencies fail at. They lack the advanced knowledge of SEO and they lack advanced/effective SEO tools. The most “sophisticated” SEO practice that they are doing is to use a specific keyword in press release title/article title/video title OR, maybe, to use the same keywords in tags (which is not bad, actually, but FAR from using the real power of SEO). Just imagine that big industry giants with huge budgets are exploiting this level of primitive SEO techniques in the 21st centry :)

And the real power of SEO is about…

delivering public opinion units
to page 1 in search engines
for a specific search phrase!

And no matter how simple it can sound, this is a very important statement, because it helps to save millions of dollars to the industry of public relations.

Just imagine, instead of spending HUGE budgets on creating the ocean of information which should cover the audience, you can create just several public opinion units (a video here, an article there, a forum thread, a press release, a blog discussion) and then, with the help of professional SEO tools, you push these public opinion units to page 1 in search engines for any phrase you need.

With the help of this you:

- save colossal money on the public relation budgets;

- work with laser targeted precision when delivering public opinion units to the audience.

Let me give you just a few examples…

… is showing how a public opinion unit
(videos created for a client)
with the help of professional SEO instruments
ranked Google page 1
for the exact keywords that the client wanted

Nothing complicated. Video created for $30. Plus a bunch of backlinks inside Elite SEO Push or other methods of link building. And you have the result on the plate. The result for which cool PR agencies would charge you over $1,000. Compare this price to the price of doing it the smart way – and the answer will shock you and will freak PR agencies out.

This is how SEO works for public relations in real life. Instead of creating tons of info, you create public opinion units and push them to page 1.

Finally you can work with laser targeted precision – this is something that will shape out the new standards for the whole industry. And save $$$, lots of $$$, tons of $$$ – check the PR budgets in the Internet, and you will understand what I mean by that.

Of course, if you are serious about
protecting the reputation of your brand…

… then an ideal solution for you is to create 10 different public opinion units and make them rank for the keyword that you need. Yes it takes efforts and resources, but the effect from building up a super positive image for your brand/product/service will pay you off times and times. AND these efforts and resources will cost you times, dozens of times and even hundreds of times less than the money that businesses have to pay to online media giants for this sort of help.

One more thing: only a small portion of people started to use SEO instruments in their full power. This market is super fresh and green. Do your own research and you will see that most of the public relation companies are talking about how to measure the effect from doing PR online, or how online is different from offiline, or how to make it work better for the business. But their instruments are still very old: “choose good keywords – submit press release/article/video” They don’t push their public opinion units with backlinks, they just wait until they get good positions. In SEO inventory they are still somewhere at the end of the 20th century. You and other FTS users are ahead of the market with access tools that build bunch of backlinks to any URL with any anchor text that you need for pushing up these lovely public opinion units.

What’s the Point of Creating these
Public Opinion Units?
Isn’t It Better to Build Backlinks and Get Traffic?!

Yes, it is great to get traffic. And backlinks will help in getting traffic.

BUT…

… don’t forget that people are social beings, and recently they are starting to convert into ONLINE social beings. One bad post on a forum that has managed to rank Google page 1 (for your product name) can kill half of your sales. And no one will care that this forum post is a complete fake with no factual support which was published by your greedy competitor. Most of the people will read it and will build their opinion based on this forum post.

Believe me, you can lose lots of sales, just because someone decided to pour sh*t on your product and this sh*t ranked nice for your product name in Google.

So, it is important to use SEO not only for ranking YOUR site higher, but also to use SEO together with the creation of public opinion.

It is not expensive, you don’t need the PR budgets of industry giants to do that. You can even do it yourself or hire others to do that.

But DO that. Be proactive. If you don’t do that, then don’t get surprised seeing others doing that with you, and pray God that they will do it in an objective and unbiased way.

Learn Why Blog Networks
That Promise Unlimited Publications
(Per Each Article that You Submit)
Will NEVER “Deliver”

Every industry has its own tricks, nuances and “hidden truths”, and beyond any doubt the industry of submitting the articles to the blogs of other people has these nasty things as well.

One of them is an ambitious promise to send your article (with your backlinks) to hundreds and even thousands of blogs. Usually the salespitch phrase can be something like, “You submit article and it gets sent to all blogs in your niche that are under the umbrella of our service/program/project” (this is not a quote, so please don’t try to find the service by searching this phrase in Google)

The promise looks awesome. I submit 1 article with 3 backlinks, they will send it to 300, or 500, or even more blogs and I can have… – WOW, tons of backlinks from tons of blogs.

BUT, They Don’t Tell You
One … Tiny … Nuance

The vast majority of the networks that give that promise don’t tell you that your article will get published only upon approval from the owner of each of the blogs. In Free Traffic System we don’t do like this, because our tests (you will see more details shortly) show that this is killing the very idea of submitting articles into systems where article is published only upon approval of this article by the blog owner.

So, Free Traffic System team has done lots of tests with different networks where the blog owners decide whether to publish or not publish the article. And the results of these tests are very sad.

Just imagine, you have created a fantastically great article that shares one of the most holy secrets of an industry and can save you from thousands of $$$ in losses (not another average article that just explains the same old boring stuff, but a truly unique info). You submit this article and wait for the blog owners’ verdict. And…

13 publications by the end of 2 months!!!

What?! For the article of this quality – 13 publications after 2 months!! This is a rip off!!

Even in FREE version of Free Traffic System (where we are limiting you by 30 publications per each article) you get more. And you get more on “less sophisticated” articles. And this is 100% FREE!

Whereas these systems charge you well over $50/month, lure you into the system with the promise of giving your articles huge distribution, and you end up with results like this.

And when you ask them about the reasons for that small number of publications, they say:

Well, Blog Owners Didn’t Like It

Which has a lot to do with truth, but this is not an ultimate explanation. And to understand what is going on with the system where your article gets published only after approval from the blog owner, we need to get into the shoes of the blog owner.

Usually people who have added blogs to systems where others are sending them content are following one of these patterns when NOT approving your articles:

- They want exclusively great articles

Well, well, well – then you need to hire a professional journalist to create these articles. Not some mediocre outsourced content writer, but a journalist with guts and talent. I bet when you see the price for the work of this journalist you will give up the very idea of doing that.

- They do not want too many publications on their blog

In terms of SEO this is pretty stupid, because we’ve done the tests where hundreds of articles per day have been published on the same blog, and no problems at all. But the blog owner thinks that this is bad, and you are down the drain with your articles.

- They do not have time to review and approve all that content

Lots of people have more than 1 blog. And got into the system with free content distribution, because they do not have time. And now they need to spend their time on approving all that articles that are coming on all their blogs.

They are short for time and the systems require from them to spend extra time on moderation. Sounds like a paradox, isn’t it?

Very quickly blog owners see that this is eating too much of their time – and your articles with backlinks will never get published.

Maybe this is Not the Ultimate List Of Reasons
for NOT Publishing Your Articles,
But this is Enough to See How Futile
Your Chances to Get Backlinks are

(in systems like that)

At the same moment, of course, blog owners will never agree to submit their blogs to the systems where submitters don’t play by the rules. Because no one wants to turn his/her blogs into the playground for greedy link builders, who don’t care about the content.

The solution to this “problem” is simple – responsible systems hire team of moderators, pay them salaries, and moderators review each and every article, before it is sent to the blogs.

Bloggers feel safe, because hired personnel is doing the job for them. Submitters are happy because they get a lot more publications, then in the systems where they are “promised” unlimited publications. Plus, in Free Traffic System we reward people for adding blogs to the system (with bonus backlinks on the submissions of their downline) and it means the more publications their downline gets, the more bonus backlinks blog owners will get on the background.

Unfortunately most of the systems simply do not want to spend thousands of $$$ per month on the salaries to articles moderation team, and make a decision that “Ok, we will put this on the shoulders of blog owners; if they do not approve, the article is not published”

“But this dramatically cuts down the submitters on backlinks?!!”

“Then, improve the quality of your articles.”

“But this article is 100% unique and its information is better than anything you can find online”

… most likely you will never get a real answer to the statement like this. And, most likely, they will start talking again about the quality of the articles or about the bloggers to approve the content.

Paradox?..

The systems with moderation team and limited number of submissions per article can give you a lot more publications then the systems where they don’t put any limits on the publication number, but you have to wait until each and every blog owner makes a decision to approve your article.

But actually this is not a paradox at all, because the systems that invest extra cash into salaries of moderators are investing more into the success of their submitters. And in Free Traffic System the success of the submitters pays off (with bonus backlinks) to blog owners as well.

Everything is logical and predictable.

Massive Footprint
Inside One Blog Network
That Can
Jeopardize All Your Backlinks in this Network

Let’s start with HOW I found this footprint. In Free Traffic System we love checking what out competitors do on this market – it is always great, because gives you ideas and inspiration to evolve your own service.

So, recently I was checking one of our competitors – and noticed something nasty. Really nasty. A footprint that within a few seconds gave me their network of blogs “on the plate”.

How Exactly are They
Leaving this Footprint?

Whenever you add your blog to this network – they send you a test post. When I saw this – I could not believe my eyes, because that was so “on the surface”. The text of this test post is a footprint. Large, juicy and obvious footprint.

I simply picked a part of the text from this test blog post, pasted this text into Google, did a search – and in a few seconds I had all their blogs disclosed.

It is so easy. Whenever Google needs to crack their network of blogs, it will take them a few seconds. The same way I did it.

Does It Mean I am Doomed
If I Have Built Backlinks from this Network?

Let’s not be pessimistic. I do not think that at the moment this blog network has grown to such a size that they have become a problem for Google.

Maybe Google will decide to check them in a day, maybe in a month, maybe in a year – who knows?! But whenever Google decides to do a check, they will instantly get the list of the blogs, because this network has left a colossal footprint on all their blogs.

And if this happens, then this is a big danger for all your backlinks – in case you have been using this network of our competitors.

Ok, Why Telling this to Us?!
Why Not Letting them Die?
They are Your Competitor!

Surely, they are our competitors. And surely I could send the list with their blogs to Google and say “eat ‘em”. That would be immoral, but that would be so … practical. Charming word and elegant excuse for filthy actions.

But if you jump over this “competitor vs competitor” game, then it becomes obvious that if one big network is killed like this – it will create hundreds of angry people who will be telling stuff like:

“Backlinks from inside blog posts are dead!”
“Google cracks these backlinks in 1 second!”
“This will kill my site!”
“Backlinks from blogs are BS!”
“My site was deindexed because I was using …”

So, these people will be telling junk about OUR MARKET – the market of blog submissions. They will be compromising the very idea of these backlinks. And I do not want that. Because backlinks from blog posts are fantastic in terms of SEO!

That is why, I have sent a message to the owners of that network (our competitors) telling about this problem, and I think they will address this issue.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
ISSUE TO BE FIXED SHORTLY…

I got a very quick reply from this network – and the quickness of this reply is already a nice proof that they addresses this issue very seriously.

So, very shortly this footprint will be removed and no nightmares will be haunting you at night.

Thanks everybody for helping to make this post a nexus for discussion.

P.S. Do You Have this Problem in
Free Traffic System?

Surely no. Footprints were one of our biggest concerns that we addressed very seriously BEFORE Free Traffic System was created and launched.

There are several major precautions we took to prevent Google from cracking our network of blogs:

We DO NOT send any test messages to the blogs.

We DO NOT send any code, that in any way can tell Google that your blog is added to Free Traffic System – no plugins, no HTML, nothing.

We even DO NOT report the URLs of the blogs in the Stats area, though some of our users are not happy about it.

For those who do not understand why we do not report the URLs of the blogs in Stats – this is simple – I can personally crack 80-90% of the blogs in any network that is FAIRLY and OPENLY reporting the URLs of the blogs. I can do massive submissions of articles in all major categories and with the help of the reports with URLs. That is why all major services on this market (with rare exceptions) don’t report the URLs of the blogs in the Stats of submissions – because this is another backdoor for cracking the network of blogs.

For Free Traffic System your SEO safety is very important. We’d better answer “inconvenient” questions from some of the users who require the URLs of the publications (and explain them how giving this info can kill this whole concept and their backlinks) rather then venturing the security and integrity of this beautiful SEO concept.

P.S. I will be deleting any mentionings of this system in the blog comments, because I do not want this blog post and its conversation to turn into blatant complaints about this network.

Do You Know that
SEO “Gurus” Can Easily Cheat You
And Persuade You to Buy Absolutely Junk Products

This article has nothing to do with blaming the whole SEO industry, there are reputable people and companies on this market. But our team is tired of seeing how many (unfortunately TOO MANY) SEO “gurus” are selling aweful junk to the people. The junk that used to work 4-7 years ago, but now it is useless.

And people buy. Lots of people buy!
Do you know why they do it?

Because they trust screenshots that show a site to be Google page 1 for a specific keyword. This lovely screenshot works like a magic wand, because when see that the owner of some SEO product managed to push the site to Google page 1, you instantly trust that the SEO tool/script/software works and helps to do that.

But, ok, isn’t screenshot of Google page 1 a valid proof?
It is impossible to fake it!

Correct, it is impossible to fake Google page 1, but there is one nasty nuance that the majority of the people do not know about. And SEO “gurus” use this lack of knowleddge for their advantage: they know how to “dance around” this Google page 1 screenshot.

We created a 2 part video that explains how exactly the fake gurus can cheat you with the screenshot and how you can check if their product is going to help you or if it is another piece of SEO junk.

Yes, A Tiny Wrong Slash
After Your Domain Name URL
Can Waste a Big Part of Link Building Job

This sounds strange, but it is true and we are going to show you how to avoid the mistake which people are doing very often. This mistake has popped up after a heated debates on one of the SEO forums. If you do not know how to safeguard yourself from this mistake, a big portion of your link building job can go down the drain.

For you to understand the mistake we need to start from a little weird topic.

Do You Know that…

your domain name with the slash after .com (or .info or .ws – whatever) and your domain name without slash are TWO DIFFERENT PAGES for Google.

For example, http://www.freetrafficsystem.com/ (with slash after .com) and http://www.freetrafficsystem.com (without the slash after .com) are two different pages. And this is the same for all sites, for all types of domains.

Yes, when you type them into the browser and hit Enter – you will get to the same home page and will never notice any difference. So, for the visitors of your site that does not make any difference, and they don’t bother.

The Problem is…

… that when you are building backlinks to the home page of your site, very often you do not pay attention to this slash/non-slash issue. Sometimes you build backlinks to the domain with slash, sometimes to the domain without slash. And this means you are dispersing your link building efforts.

For example, you have built 1,000 backlinks – out of these around 500 backlinks where built to domain with slash and around 500 to the domain without slash. And you are sitting and scratching your head “Why am I just position 10 on page 1 in Google?” It is highly possible that you are missing these extra 500 backlinks which have been “wasted” on a another version of your home page!

What to Do?

The solution depends upon every particular situation.

If you just start link building and your site and no inlinks, then just make a choice of your own. “I will be building backlinks only to http://domain.com/ (with slash)” or “I will be building backlinks only to http://domain.com (without slash)” and STICK to your decision.

Of course, you do not have control over all inlinks. Some people can link to your site, just because they decided to do that. And you cannot force them to do any changes – they can get irritated and kill your link.

But in all link building which is under your control, for example the one which you are doing in Free Traffic System, STICK to your decision.

If you are doing link building for a site that already has inlinks, then do a research of your incoming links and see what type of backlink is more common to point to your home page – with slash or without slash – then choose the type which prevails. For instance, you saw that you have 60 backlinks with slash and 14 without slash – then your choice should be for bulding backlinks with slash, as the bigger part of your backlink asset already has slashes.

And, of course, once this choice is made – STICK to your decision.

It’s Easy to be Wise, Isn’t It? :)

Free Traffic System
Has Saved its Users
$147,600
On Link Building
In January 2009!

Now that we have passed to a new server, we managed to find some time and check out the article submission and link building stats that Free Traffic System had in Jan 2009.

The numbers are impressive – only in Jan 2009 Free Traffic System has saved its users (because we are 100% free service) over $147,600 on link building!

Where Did You Get these Numbers?

In Jan 2009 Free Traffic System has processed ~ 820 articles. Each article has 2 backlinks. Each article was republished on ~ 15 blogs. This is 820 articles x 2 backlinks x 15 blogs each article = 24,600 backlinks processed.

Now, if you are hiring a SEO service to build backlinks for you – then you will need to pay for a permanent one way link from inside a big bulk of text on the relevant site (this is what you get with us for free) you would need to pay $6 per one such link. And this is the cheapest price on the market that we managed to find at the moment.

So, 24,600 backlinks x $6 each backlink = $147,600

During these overdoomed times of recession and crisis we have helped people to build quality backlinks without paying us a single cent. Witht the help of the backlinks people are already pushing their sites to Google page 1 and get visitors to their sites.

This is the best recession-proof link building solution on the market, and we are happy to report it.

There are plenty of ways how you can monetize this link building power that you get for free with Free Traffic System. One of the ways to make money with Free Traffic System is explained in this post.

If You are Publishing
Trackback Comments on Your Blog
Then You are Giving AWAY SEO Value
From Your Pages!

Please read this post to the bottom, otherwise you can keep losing the SEO value from your pages.

In one of the previous posts on this blog we started to talk about trackbacks as an instrument to check one way backlinks that you build inside Free Traffic System and outside this system (for details read post about what is a trackback and how to use it for backlinks checking).

And – thanks to your questions about trackbacks – we noticed that many people are approving these trackback comments and publish them on their blog post pages. This is a big SEO mistake.

Of course, you are the boss on your blog, you do whatever you wish with the blog, and Free Traffic System team does not interfere with your decisions. But this is what happens behind the curtain when you approve/publish a trackback comment.

When the trackback comment in published, you see it appearing as a comment under one of your blog posts. It is very important to notice that this comment has an OUTGOING link to ANOTHER blog. So, you are doing your best to build one way links inside Free Traffic System and then give away this virtual SEO juice that you have managed to build for the page of your site to ANOTHER page of ANOTHER site.

Surely if the comment would bring up some very useful information that seriously adds to what you have said in your own post – then approving this type of comment makes sense, and you can close the eyes on giving away a backlink. But trackback comments bring nothing important in terms of information to your blog post.

So, no informational value from trackback commment, and you give them a backlink. This is TOO GENEROUS when speaking of SEO. Free Traffic System strongly recommends NOT to approve/publish trackback comments on your blog.

What to Do with ALREADY Approved Trackback Comments?

Go to your WordPress admin area on the blog, into the section Comments. There you should find a button Unapprove. Tick all trackback comments that you have already published and then click Unapprove.

This will bring the trackback comments back into your admin section, without making them visible on the blog post pages and you will stop SEO leakage.

Can I DELETE Trackback Comments?

You can, but don’t forget that trackback comments are a great tool to see from where exactly you are getting one way backlinks. That is why we recommend not to delete them – let them stay inside your WP admin area. Just make sure not to approve them ;)
