YouTube Backlinks

YouTube.com Backlinks:
Do You Know that NOT ALL
Outgoing Backlinks from YouTube.com are
‘No Follow’?

Everybody knows that outgoing backlinks from YouTube.com are ‘no follow’ and thus have no SEO value which makes YouTube.com pretty useless in terms of building one way backlinks to any web pages outside YouTube.com

(note: those of you who do not know what is that ‘no follow’ stuff and how to check whether a backlink that you got is ‘no follow’ – please read this video blog post about No Follow Checking)

There is a big and heated debate in SEO world about whether ‘no follow’ backlinks actually count for SEO or not. I would recommend to watch this video from Matt Cutts – the “official talking head” from Google web spam team (this team is also taking care of all SEO stuff in Google) about the SEO value of ‘no follow’ backlinks.

And my personal subjective point of view is similar to Google’s official point of view – it was pointless for Google to introduce all this ‘no follow’ stuff and then, for some reason, stop playing into this game and start counting ‘no follow’ backlinks as the ones that transfer SEO juice. But this is my personal point of view and I respect the right of other people to have other opinions on this tricky SEO issue.

But in any case, I have definitely great news for all backlink lovers, because …

NOT ALL YouTube.com Backlinks are ‘No Follow’;
Actually a Full-Force SEO Backlink
is Waiting for You on YouTube.com
RIGHT HERE…

It is waiting for you inside the user profile section of YouTube.com channel. For example, if you go to our Free Traffic System video channel and scroll the page a little to see the Profile section, and inside this section you will notice a backlink. And this is a real SEO backlink, no ‘no follow’ stuff, 100% full force SEO backlink – please check the screenshot below to see where exactly it is located in the Profile section.

And, by the way,
This is a backlink from PR4 page!!

Surely I am not trying to say that all YouTube.com channel pages have high Google PR – lots of them have PR0. But in any case, this is a backlink. Check it and you will see – it has no ‘no follow’ in the HTML code of the page.

There is one disadvantage about this backlink in profile sectionyou don’t have any freedom with anchor text of this backlink. All you can do is simply put a URL, and no fancy games with anchor text and keyword hunting here. And yes, this is a disadvantage. But at the same moment – getting at least one full-force SEO backlink from YouTube.com is not bad :)

Is It the Only Spot
On YouTube.com
Where the Backlink Comes
Without ‘No Follow’?

Well, I have done a vast research, and can say in all other places the outgoing backlinks have ‘no follow’. But I don’t pretend to be the source of ultimate truth here. And one of the reasons of writing this post is the following – you can help all Free Traffic System users by double checking this info.

Do you own research.

Dig through the whole structure of different YouTube pages (channel pages, tag pages, comments – everything).

Maybe you will find another page/section where the ‘no follow’ rule on YouTube.com is broken – for the glory of SEO geeks round the globe.

So, if you find any other examples of breaking ‘no follow’ rule on YouTube.com – submit a comment below. We will give publicity for those who are ready to bring up useful information regarding this topic.

At last – a reason to upload to YouTube. Now, I just need to think of a video to create and upload!

Good info, Thanks guys. Off to you tube..

  3. Ivan said on May 18th, 2010 9:43 pm

I taught this was pretty common knowledge. Its really not all that great since you’d have to create 1000 Youtube profiles just to get profile back links.. And unless you have a profile with a good PR its not gonna do you much good.

  4. High Jumper said on May 18th, 2010 9:58 pm

There must be other criteria involved in this link becoming “follow”. I have an account (relatively new) with only one video uploaded and my link is “nofollow”.

That’s pretty cool. Now all I have to do is pay some big youtuber’s to put my link on their channel page. Or create lots of different channels that deal with different subject matter. This is a very interesting topic. I like.

Thanks for the tip. I will go ahead and add this back link to my youtube profile.

This is new. I have checked in the past and profile links were definitely nofollow. I wonder if this is intentional or accidental? They might have accidentally left the nofollow off when they created the new layout.

  10. Local Search Marketing said on May 18th, 2010 10:22 pm

Yes that is a brilliant link to get. And it’s even easier to get high PR on your YouTube Channel. Just comment a ton on other high PR Channel’s Profiles. This link is also a “do follow” that links back to your YouTube Channel. This way you can beef up the PR on your Channel which then in turn gives you some PR juice.

Great info on Youtube backlinks. It is great to get a link from a trust site like youtube not just for the Page Rank. Thanks for the reminder, Rob

Thanks for the news! It’s nice to know we are getting some direct ‘juice’ from YouTube, even though as you say, it’s a bit limited.

I think another key here is that people need to visit their YouTube profile to see exactly what site url they have listed there. With Internet marketers building so many new sites these days, it only makes sense to double check to see if the site that should be there, is there.

    Thanks

    Rick

I’m off to make sure I’ve got a site linked from my long standing YouTube channel. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hi, this information is very valuable. I did believe that all the backlinks from YouTube is nofollow. You article here is opening my eyes and I’m very surprise.

    Thank you!

I’ve seen backlinks from youtube that were follow and no follow that my competitors had. I was wondering how they do it.

  16. Matt Duggan said on May 18th, 2010 11:42 pm

    Great post folks!

It’s very cool to know that the link in the channel profile is a ‘DoFollow’ link. I’ll certainly be sharing this with everyone I know via the Internet Marketing community as it’s potentially dynamite stuff.

Keep up the great blog and thanks again.

Right, now that you mentioned this in public, rather than your newsletter, link whores will go and spam it with 100s of fake profile pages and youtube will be forced to nofollow it. End of excitement.

  22. Safemoney said on May 19th, 2010 1:06 am

Good bit of info! I also found that in the box “about me” under the
my picture will take a “bare” backlink as well. The page is a PR8 on my computer not a PR4 !!

  23. Safemoney said on May 19th, 2010 1:16 am

Found another one. In the profile under Jobs and career you can drop a url in the company field. (only a bare link without text. But what the heck it’s a Pr8 !!)

  24. Bob McGuire said on May 19th, 2010 1:16 am

Good work finding that extra link in the universe. I did that then I tried the next line which was the description and added one there but alas they stuck a no follow in there.

  25. Andy said on May 19th, 2010 1:36 am

Prediction: The link in TouTube Video Channel profile won’t remain a “dofollow” for long now.

  26. My Health Blog said on May 19th, 2010 2:33 am

I have a question here. Does this blog have the “no follow” tag? I have been doing a lot od reading recently and came upon posts that say that no follow links sometimes do count while some say they don’t.

Here is what I do. I try to get both. As far as youtube is concerned, it showed up in the links list of certain link checking tool I use. I link to the videos in blogs and articles, submit my channels rss feed and that is it. In fact I did not realize that youtube channels have rss feeds. Use it and whether directly or indirectly you can still benefit.

As far as Matt Cuts is concerned, that’s another story on its own. He should be in politics rather than in the computer or internet business. He says something and does another.

  27. Exams said on May 19th, 2010 3:10 am

Great information! There are also links in the video description and stats but they seem to be nofollow.

  28. Keith D Shrock said on May 19th, 2010 3:15 am

    Thanks for the great article–

PR 4 backlinks are good for me right now….
Especially from the 2nd or 3rd highest traffic site–
    on the ‘net.

  29. James Dewar said on May 19th, 2010 3:15 am

Good information. On another note I dont believe a word Matt Cutts says. He is Googles propaganda machine and I am thinking he only comments on things they wish websmasters would do. And he is effective. I have completely thrown everything he says out the window and have never been more successful. EVERY link is counted. I recently just completed a project where we put a company on google’s first SERPS for 24 terms. Many very competitive. I wont say what I did but you must remember EVERY link counts.

  30. Rank Mover said on May 19th, 2010 5:15 am

    Hey,

Good job with the post! This is something not many people know and despite the fact that you can’t add anchor text, it is still a good link resource that pass away the PR.

    Thank you!

  31. Kris Beus said on May 19th, 2010 5:19 am

Well I did my checking and I can’t believe you noticed this. I also am getting a PR 4 backlink on my profile here is proof http://www.youtube.com/user/kbeus21 I downloaded a seo add on from Google chrome which when activated allows me to outline all no follow links. The link to my website is do follow. Now I noticed something else there are other do follow links on the profile page and they are to other profiles whether it be friends or subscribers. They are sharing the PR juice from my profile page. Now why this is interesting is when I go to their profile and look at my profile name it comes up as a do follow link back to my profile. This is why I think my profile is a page rank of 4 it is getting do follow links from my friends profiles and subscribers. Anyway just something I noticed.

On a side note I to have found a great source of do follow backlinks. It is from the website bing.com I think this is the first time I have ever seen do follow backlinks coming from a major search engines. Now it is from the community forums and from what I noticed they allow three backlinks in the signature. Anyway I made a few posts and I am still waiting for the backlinks to show up. The forum is page rank of 6 here is the URL bing.com/community/forums/ like you guys said in the post it would help if you double checked. Anyway thanks for the information on youtube.

    Kris,

  32. Directory Submission said on May 19th, 2010 6:29 am

I have just tried it and it does work, shame about not having any anchor text, but hey thanks for the tip.

  33. Matt said on May 19th, 2010 6:30 am

Well, sure you must take your chances and spread your url everywhere you can on the internet. Especially if it’s a massive authority site as ‘YouTube’. I’ve added my link just yesterday. We’ll see what comes of it. Don’t stand still, don’t think about it, get on with spreading your website everywhere you can, as long its on high ranked sites.
So, yes I think this was a good post, but I think most of us already knew this. Not?

  34. napnipnop said on May 19th, 2010 6:34 am

Thanks! Finally I put a link to my profiles. And I still browse to get youtube pages with dofollow link.

  35. George said on May 19th, 2010 7:39 am

Very interesting point, you are right, it is a dofollow link. But I checked my Youtube page and although I created it 4 years ago, it has no Google PR. On the PR tool, I see “Google Does not rank current page”.

I guess the difference is that you are giving inlinks from this blog, what do you think?

  36. johnpea said on May 19th, 2010 8:48 am

I think you’re right, this link isn’t no-follow but, according to my Firefox page rank checker, the page has a pagerank of 0, not 4.

I’ve posted a link anyway and it’ll be interesting to see if it shows up as 0 or 4

There is a difference, because actually YouTube has 2 links for any channel, in our case:
    http://www.youtube.com/freetrafficsystem
    AND
    http://www.youtube.com/user/freetrafficsystem

The first one is 0 (actually my toolbar shows that it is even not ranked), and the second one is PR4.

  37. Aqif said on May 19th, 2010 11:19 am

    Hey there,

Thank you for revealing the one and only ‘DO FOLLOW’ backlink from youtube. Looking forward someone to reveal others backlink for youtube.

    Thank you once again

  38. Adam said on May 19th, 2010 2:05 pm

Seems like Yahoo would acknowledge that link but I can find it on there anywhere:

    linkdomain:www.freetrafficsystem.com/ -site:www.freetrafficsystem.com/ “youtube.com/user/freetrafficsystem”

Well that is strange it couldn’t be found that way!
Tried removed the internal links omitter string and found it this way:
    linkdomain:www.freetrafficsystem.com/ “/user/freetrafficsystem”

Wonder what the heck is going wrong with Yahoo now.

    A~

  39. Toledo InternetMarketing said on May 19th, 2010 2:39 pm

It may have changed now, I’ll assume that you have done a through check, but in the past, comments on video’s used to be ‘do follow’. If I remember correctly there were certain hoops to jump through to optimize it properly but it seemed a little gray hat for me and much more trouble than it was worth. I can’t remember who I learned that tactic from though.

Anyhow, thanks for the reminder on this. There are many forums that have ‘do follow’ in there profile areas and this can be a great way to increase backlinks.

  40. Internet Marketing Advice said on May 19th, 2010 3:24 pm

I agree that these links are the only ones (that I’ve found) that you can get any “undiluted link juice” from.

But it is a good link to have, especially if you have a high page rank profile/user page.

Want to know how to get that up? Go leave comments on other people’s user/profile pages and you’ll get incoming and internal links that inevitably raise your PR.

I first learned this from my buddy Kevin Barnes.

Some funny stuff going on here. Just 5 minutes ago i looked at the one video i have on youtube while using seo plugin for firefox, which as you all know shows up No Follow links in red or what ever color you choose. Then i went to my youtube Channel and i saw that my site link from there was showing as Do follow!! Then i go to my email inbox open up the email to come here and you guys are talking about it!! Cool!

  42. G. from Wealthy Affiliate Review said on May 20th, 2010 12:56 am

That’s actually not new, but good to remember.

Someone above told about posting comments to other channels.

I would like to add that your LAST published video get’s ALL the juice if you post a video comment to other videos.

Using a SEO’s video in combination with your channels name (your best keyword) will give your video a great SEO boost.

    Benefit from this.

I have the feeling that You Tube / Google won’t leave this link as Do Follow for very long but you never know. It is definitely worth the 10 seconds to takes to enter a URL in that field.

I have had a link in that field on my You Tube profile Remote PC Access for a few months and have not received any juice from it yet.

  47. Nonoy said on June 24th, 2011 1:21 pm

I didn’t know that I can put a backlink in the profile section of my Youtube’s channel until I read this post. Now mine is already there. I was actually making backlinks from the channel’s description whenever I upload a new video; this is to inform viewers that there is still more in store for them on my blog. Is this area can also have link juice even though it’s a no follow.? Just wondering.

Thanks for this post by the way. Kudos! :-)
